Veranstaltungen vom April 12, 2014

Die Dortmunder Science Fiction Convention, kurz DORT.con, findet - nach dem Start im Jahr 2002 - immer in den ungeraden Jahren statt. Im Mittelpunkt stehen jedes Mal zwei Science Fiction-Autoren - ein deutschsprachiger und einer aus dem englischsprachigen Ausland. Damit ist der DORT.con neben dem Elstercon in Leipzig eine von noch zwei Veranstaltungen in Deutschland, die regelmäßig mit ausländischen Ehrengästen aufwarten kann. Die Gäste sprechen über ihre Ideen, ihre Arbeit und ihre Projekte; lesen aus ihren Werken und stehen für Autogramme zur Verfügung.

Neben den Auftritten der Ehrengäste gibt es viele weitere Programm-Angebote: Vorträge über Science Fiction-Filme, -Fernsehserien, -Spiele, -Magazine und Fanprojekte; eine Bücherbörse, einen Storyworkshop und eine Kinonacht. Im Vorfeld findet ein Storywettbewerb statt. Umrahmt wird das Ganze mit humorvollen Moderationen der Macher, die inzwischen für ihre witzigen Sketche bekannt sind. Kurz gefasst: Das Programm des DORT.con ist genau das Richtige für alle, die Science Fiction lieben.

Der nächste DORT.con wird am 21./22. März 2015 stattfinden.

For much of the twentieth century, outer space has been envisioned as not only a site of heavenly utopias, but also the ultimate battlefield. Concentrating on weapons, warfare, and violence, this conference explores the military dimensions of astroculture in the period between 1942 and 1990. By highlighting the militarization of extraterrestrial frontiers and conquest in politics and popular culture alike, ‘Embattled Heavens’ addresses the complex processes that oscillate between peaceful and aggressive characteristics of human endeavors in outer space. While the Space Age is usually associated with Cold War history, this conference complicates established narratives by integrating Western European and global perspectives. Examining astropolitics, technoscientific practices, and science fiction, the goal of this conference is to reconceptualize the history of outer space with a view towards its military dimensions.
