fan-sein hat schon etwas beschwerliches:

und eigentlich war ich nie ein fan von irgendwas - außer vielleicht von gibsons literarischen welten.

spannend wird es wenn sich diese welten in die eigene einschreiben oder man bisher
ungekannte konvergenzen findet.

bei "futurematic" spielen etwa historische armbanduhren ein zentrales thema.

ich als liebhaber von historischen militärambanduhren bekam ja sofort feuchte augen, als ich von der jaeger-lecoultre des taoistischen messerkillers las - einem 1953er raaf-modell!

stil hatte er schon immer der gibson!

und wir als ehemalige rollenspiel-kids kennen es ja noch von früher, dieses bestreben so auszusehen, wie die selbstkreierten helden aus shadowrun und cyberpunk, oder gar wie die helden aus unseren lieblingsfilmen und büchern.

und dann heute nacht die ersten kapitel von "mustererkennung"! als wandelndes anzitat von naomi kleins "no logo" trägt die coolhunter cayce nur "unlogokleidung" und läßt sich die etiketten aus ihren jeans entfernen.

ihr bestes stück ist eine ma-1 von rickson eine angeblich japanische otakuversion der allseits bekannten bomberjacke. heute vor dem rechner dann gegoogelt und gelesen, was passiert ist - die literatur wurde wirklichkeit!

nein die rickson ma-1 gab es nicht! es war gibsons erfindung. aber fanatische fans haben eine firma namens buzz rickson aufgetan, die otaku-mäßig in japan haargenaue repros von alten militärfliegerjacken herstellt (zu happigen preisen - ich überlegte kurz mal ob ich mir da nicht mal eine ww2-luftwaffen-repro-lederjacke kaufen sollte). und dort angefragt, ob sie die fabrikanten der gibson-jacke wären. die buzz rickson- leute waren etwas erstaunt, haben aber nach mehreren anfragen gibson gefragt, ob sie die jacke als "pattern recognition"-modell herstellen und verkaufen können.

The U. S. Air Force MA-1 Intermediate Flying Jacket was introduced as the direct descendant of the “modified† B-15D Flying Jacket in 1957. These early MA-1 jackets were made of a grayish shade of sage green heavy nylon twill fabric, warmly lined with woolen fiber filling sandwiched between the outer nylon shell and the sage green inner nylon lining. Later MA-1†™s produced in the 1960†™s declined in quality and warmth and featured a reversible orange lining. Buzz Rickson†™s has offered an absolutely magnificent copy of the first-pattern MA-1 Flying Jacket ever since they began making historical clothing in 1994.

Early in 2003, best-selling novelist William Gibson released a groundbreaking new book, PATTERN RECOGNITION. This absorbing and masterfully crafted novel is set in the period immediately following “9-11†, featuring a high-tech., super-hip, cyber-chic, anti-fashion sophisticate, Cayce Pollard, as the heroine.
