Alan Moore's million-word prose novel JERUSALEM gets a release date

 

Alan Moore is one of the most revered names in comics books, having written the seminal, acclaimed Watchmen, V For Vendetta and From Hell and contributed to many of the most famous names in the field, including Batman (most notably The Killing Joke), Superman (most famously Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?) and Swamp Thing. He has now announced that he has completed a one million-word prose novel for release this September.
Moor has been working on Jerusalem for over a decade and has occasionally dropped hints as to what the book will be about. One element the book deals with is the "consciousness event horizon", the idea that our individual consciousnesses cannot conceive of our own deaths, so at the moment of death our consciousness "rewinds" to the moment of birth and we get to live our lives over again. Some ideas suggest we are trapped into making the same exact decisions and living the same life through each time, others suggest we have freedom to change things. What version of this idea Moore will be exploring, or if that old idea for the book even holds true, is unknown.

 Das ist ja doof. Die Seite gehört zu meinen "Guck ich jeden Tag rein"-Seiten.  Letztes Jahr hat "A Dribble of Ink" dichtgemacht und jetzt das hier. Das Ende des Online-SF-Fandoms ist nahe. Ist noch Platz auf der Couch?

Das ist so. Ich war von der "Todesnachricht" nicht so überrascht, weil Mr. Strahan es ein paar Tage vorher auf Facebook vom Dach gepfiffen hat. Das tägliche Kontingent meines RSS-Sammlers bestand meist zur Hälfte aus neuen Einträgen von sf signal. Auch wenn ich das Meiste nie gelesen habe, schon wegen der schieren Masse. Aber z. B. die Podcasts werden mir wirklich fehlen und natürlich die Hinweise auf externe Artikel und Blogs.

Heute frisch erschienen: Lavie Tidhar: Central Station

 

13 mehr oder weniger lose miteinander verknüpfte Geschichten rings um die Station und vor allem das pulsierende Leben in Tel Aviv, der Stadt, über der die Station schwebt. 11 dieser Geschichten sind von 2011 bis 2014 in verschiedenen Magazinen veröffentlicht, für dieses Buch aber noch mal teils stark überarbeitet worden.

 

Allein das Cover (von Sarah Anne Langton) finde ich schon traumhaft. Wenn der Inhalt nur halbwegs so stark ist, steht ein tolles Leseerlebnis bevor.

wenn man (oder frau *g) dann bei scalzi bisserl stöbert, sieht man ( ... *g), dass alan moores jerusalem (siehe weiter oben hier im thread) schon erschienen ist (oder wenns bei scalzi ein ARC ist, bald erscheinen wird).

- League of Dragons von Naomi Novik, 10. und letzter Band ihrer Drachenreiter-Reihe. Frau Novik ist ja aktuelle Nebula-Preisträgerin (für Uprooted).

 

- BLOOD IN THE WATER von Taylor Anderson, Teil 11 (Elf) der DESTROYERMEN-Reihe, Alternativ-Dingens, steht oder stand (?) ja unser Dirki (Bewbs und so) drauf.

Inhalt:

To win an impossible war Captain Kel Cheris must awaken an ancient weapon and a despised traitor general.
Captain Kel Cheris of the hexarchate is disgraced for using unconventional methods in a battle against heretics.  Kel Command gives her the opportunity to redeem herself by retaking the Fortress of Scattered Needles, a star fortress that has recently been captured by heretics.  Cheris's career isn't the only thing at stake.  If the fortress falls, the hexarchate itself might be next.
Cheris's best hope is to ally with the undead tactician Shuos Jedao. The good news is that Jedao has never lost a battle, and he may be the only one who can figure out how to successfully besiege the fortress.
The bad news is that Jedao went mad in his first life and massacred two armies, one of them his own.  As the siege wears on, Cheris must decide how far she can trust Jedao--because she might be his next victim.

Zu Ninefox Gambit:

 

Blurbs sind immer mit äußerster Vorsicht zu genießen, vor allem wenn sie (hier nicht ...) von Stephen King stammen. Bei Yoon Ha Lees Roman sind sich aber ein paar Superschwergewichte der SF relativ einig, dass das guter Stoff ist. Ich hab mir das Buch bestellt.
