Dear friends,
A few news from Elsewhere,
- Solar art: English artist James Hutchinson (http://www.jameshutchinson.org/) presents his 8-volume flick book "Solar Ball" from 15 September in the museum library. James Hutchinson assembles images which together give a generic impression of something which resembles a strangely familiar object. Whilst not describing the object in a realist manner, the viewer "understands" it, and its constant shifting and evolution, which emphasises the passing of time...
- Media utopia: The museum was recently featured on a whole (impressive) page in Time magazine (European edition). Hurray! Read the article here:
http://www.time.com/...1646044,00.html
- Inner utopias: Our "Mirror Wolrds" exhibition, showing Mario Del Curto's photographs of personal utopias, just opened in the Museum im Lagerhaus in St-Gallen (http://www.museumimlagerhaus.ch).
- Dystopias: With the help of Fox films (http://www.fox.ch) and Warnerbros (http://www.warnerbros.ch) we are happy to allow you to discover the latest Juan Carlos Fresnadillo SF film, "28 Weeks Later" (released in Switzerland next week). A terrible virus has created desolation in England, turning most people into savage beasts. Six months later, everything seems back to normal... But the Rage is not over... Be one of the first twenty people to send an email to <maison@ailleurs.ch> to get a free entry to a screening anywhere in Switzerland!
- Entropia: Finally, please note that the museum will be closed for renovation and the preparation of our next show from Sept. 24th to Oct. 28th. There are only a few days left to (re)discover Entropia (http://www.ailleurs....po_d.php?id=ent).
Hoping to see you soon,

Some news from Maison d'Ailleurs, as nights grow long...
-> Exhibitions here and elsewhere: at the museum, An Exhibition of Unspeakable Things, to help you get over the Christmas spirit! 500 original images based on the work of H. P. Lovecraft (http://www.ailleurs....o_d.php?id=love)... In Japan, Mirror Worlds at No-Ma Borderless Art Museum (http://www.no-ma.jp/...tion/dt_25.html) to expand our horizons...
-> Jules Verne exhibition space: these last few weeks have been sadly marked by the tragic death of our collaborator and friend Stéphane Jaquenoud. Stéphane was our museographer, in charge of almost everything in our Verne project and we will miss him dearly. Today, our thoughts are with his family, and we will strive to make the Jules Verne room in the way he defined it.
So far, we have gathered 900'000.- Swiss Francs for this project and are getting close to the amount we need to complete it as planned (CHF 1'180'000.-); at this stage, your help is essential. Please do not hesitate to contact us for any information you might need on the Jules Verne exhibition space and be generous here: http://www.ailleurs....rne/english.php
-> At the movies: Maison d'Ailleurs, with the help of Fox films (http://www.fox.ch) and Warnerbros (http://www.warnerbros.ch) invites you to discover "Alien vs. Predator - Requiem". Be one of the first twenty people to send your name and address to <maison@ailleurs.ch> to get a free entry to a screening anywhere in Switzerland...
Have a great festive season and a beautiful year 2008. Don't forget to be happy.

Dear friends,
Some news around "An Exhibition of Unspeakable Things - Works inspired by H. P. Lovecraft's Commonplace Book", still on display at the museum until April 6th, 2008.
-> In collaboration with the museum, the podcast utopod (the best podcast in French for SF short stories) proposes an episode with six short texts written for the catalogue of the show. Original works by: James Morrow, Lucius Shepard, Valerio Evangelisti, Pierre-Yves Lador, Jacques Finné and Eugène. Listen to them here: http://www.utopod.com/ (in French).
-> The Swiss National Television (TSR) has just done a nice report of the exhibit. You can see it online here: http://www.tsr.ch/ts...208;vid=8767356
-> The poster of the exhibit (created by Julien Notter and Sébastien Vigne, http://www.at-elier.net) is a huge success and dozens of copies have been sold all over the world! It has now been selected by the Chaumont International Poster Festival in France, and the Australian Company "People Like Us" (http://www.peoplelikeusstyle.com/) is releasing T-Shirts and iPod accessories with the design very soon...

[polemics] The conquest of the North Pole by air
on Saturday April 26th, 2008 at 6:00 PM
Follow the amazing expeditions to the last terra incognita on Earth: the North Pole... Made possible through centuries of dreams and technological progress, the polar conquest was an international challenge only comparable to the Space adventure today.
As we might be seeing the last of the ice caps, Maison d'Ailleurs welcomes you to a trip between science fiction and a reality almost too incredible to believe when it comes to reaching the North Pole by airships...

A new music compilation CD, produced by Maison d'Ailleurs (museum of Science Fiction in Switzerland), is now accepting submissions. The CD will be produced in 5600 copies, distributed for free with the music magazine Vibrations in March 2010, to accompany a Music and Science Fiction exhibition at the museum.
About the exhibition
Maison d'Ailleurs is staging an exhibition about Music and Science Fiction from March 6th to August 1st 2010, which will explore the way that Science Fiction has permeated music genres. Not only has Science Fiction been linked to technological innovation in musical instruments since the theremin, but thanks to its metaphorical potential, Science Fiction narratives and images have been widely used by musicians, from Sun Ra to Magma, Kraftwerk to Carl Craig, Louis and Bebe Barron to Hawkwind...
About the CD
We thought it was high time to reflect on the many contemporary connections between music and Science Fiction, by asking musicians to come up with new projects inspired by the aesthetics, narratives or sounds of the genre. Submissions can relate to the field in many ways, including but not limited to.
- works which use Science Fiction related instruments (such as the theremin, moog, mellotron)
- works which include sonic interpretation of ideas or sounds from Science Fiction
- works which relate to Science Fiction narratives
